Treat head tables lavishly and add simple adornment to other tables. Centerpieces are one detail that can push cost up quickly. One centerpiece at $50 is quite reasonable, but multiply that by the number of tables at your reception and you can quickly create a budget crisis. Consider creating a simple centerpiece on your reception tables. Float half a dozen roses in a compote and surround with votives. Or sugar grapes and figs, stack in a white ceramic bowl and surround with skinny tapers. Then add a coordinating and opulent treatment to the head tables and/or buffets. Dense bowls of coordinating roses. Or rose arrangements with cascading sprays of grapes of rose and fig garland can coordinate with your more modest arrangements.
